What to Expect in Your First Week at a Recovery Centre

The first week can feel overwhelming. Here is an honest, compassionate guide to what the admission process and early days of recovery really look like.

Taking the step to enter a recovery centre is one of the bravest decisions a person can make. But the unknown can be terrifying. What will it be like? What will happen on day one? Will I be judged? Here is an honest, compassionate guide to what your first week at Hope In The Hills actually looks like.

Day One: Arrival and Welcome

You will be met by our patient coordinator — a warm, experienced professional whose only job on day one is to make you feel safe and welcome. There is no rush, no judgment, and no pressure. We will show you around, introduce you to your room, and answer every question you have.

Days Two to Three: Assessment

Our medical and clinical team will conduct a thorough, confidential assessment. This helps us understand your history, your needs, and your goals. It is not an interrogation — it is a conversation. Everything you share stays within your care team.

Days Four to Seven: Settling In

By the middle of the first week, most patients begin to feel the rhythm of the centre. Structured days, regular meals, therapy sessions, and quiet time in the gardens all contribute to a growing sense of safety and stability.

The hardest part is walking through the door. Everything after that is one step at a time.

You do not have to have everything figured out before you arrive. You just have to arrive. We will take it from there — together.
